Coding is what tells the car about its new parts. Without it, components run in default mode — or not at all. These are the jobs we do most.

01 / Battery

New battery won't register.

Fitted a new battery and the car's running rough, stop-start disabled, or warning lights stuck on? Modern systems need the new battery registered with the right capacity and chemistry — without it, the alternator won't charge correctly.

Headlight module & AFS.

Replacement headlights, swapped LED/xenon bulbs, or AFS (Adaptive Front-Lighting) faults — all need coding so the car recognises the new hardware. Without it, you'll get dipped-beam errors or static instead of cornering lights.

EGR or DPF replacement.

Replaced an EGR valve or DPF and the car's stuck in limp mode? The new unit needs coding to the ECU and the soot/regen counters reset. We do both, then run a regeneration to confirm everything's running properly.

Common on BMW, VW Group and Mercedes diesels — new or swapped injectors need their IMA codes programmed in so the ECU knows the exact flow rate. Skipping this causes rough idle, smoke and uneven cylinder balance.

ABS sensors, steering angle sensors, throttle bodies, BCMs — most modern modules won't talk to the rest of the car until they're coded in. We code the new part to the VIN and clear any related fault codes.

    Read the car's coding state

    Manufacturer-level scan tools to read the existing coding values, fault codes, and adaptation data — so we know exactly what the new part needs and what's already in there.

    Code to the right values

    Battery capacity. Headlight type. Injector IMA codes. Sensor characteristics. Each part has its own codes — we use the values from the part, not generic defaults that often cause more issues than they solve.

    Verify before we leave

    Clear any related fault codes, run the relevant adaptations, road-test or rev-test as needed. Warning lights off, codes cleared, everything working — before we pack up.

Component coding, explained.

What is component coding and why does my car need it?
Modern cars expect to know exactly which part is fitted — battery capacity, headlight type, injector flow rate, sensor characteristics. When you fit a new component, the ECU needs telling about it. Without coding, the car runs the part in a generic default mode, throws warning lights, or refuses to recognise it at all.
How long does coding take?
Most coding jobs are done in 15–60 minutes on the driveway. Battery registration, headlight coding and most module coding takes minutes; multi-injector coding or full module adaptations can take a little longer. We tell you up front before booking.
Why can't my local garage do this?
Most independents only have generic OBD scanners that can read fault codes but can't write coding values. Manufacturer-level coding requires the same software the dealer uses — we bring that to your driveway at independent prices.
Can you code parts I bought from a breaker yard?
Often, yes. Most modules from breakers can be adapted and coded to your VIN — keys, BCMs, headlight modules, instrument clusters, comfort modules and more. Send us the part number before fitting if you can; we'll confirm whether it's adaptable.
My battery was replaced and now stop-start doesn't work — can you fix it?
Almost certainly. Modern cars need the new battery registered to the BMS (Battery Management System) so the charging logic and stop-start work correctly. We can do this in 15 minutes on the driveway.
Do you cover my make?
BMW, Audi, VW Group, Mercedes, Porsche, Mini, Land Rover, Jaguar, Ford, Vauxhall and most Japanese, Korean and French marques are routine for us. Send the registration over and we'll confirm before booking.
